Purpose and Mechanism
The Leptospira IgG/IgM rapid test kits are used for the rapid detection of immunoglobulin G and immunoglobulin M generated against Leptospira (a species of bacteria) in human blood. It can cause severe leptospirosis, resulting in fever, liver infection, kidney failure, etc. Therefore, it is essential to diagnose and treat it promptly. A lateral flow immunochromatographic assay is employed in the Leptospira IgG/IgM rapid test. It includes an IgG-gold conjugate along with a conjugate pad containing Leptospira interrogans-specific antigen and colloidal gold. It has a nitrocellulose membrane with two regions: a test region and a control region. The test line “G” is coated with an anti-human IgG, and the test line “M” is coated with anti-IgM. For control, the membrane at last contains goat anti-mouse IgG. When the specimen is added to the sample well, the IgG and IgM antibodies react and form complexes.
