It is used to treat metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) and non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) in adult men. It works by blocking important male hormones (androgens), such as testosterone, which fuels the cancer cell growth. By inhibiting this hormone, the cancer cell cycle is disrupted and tumor growth halts.
Some common side effects are fatigue, hot flashes, back pain, joint pain, weakness, headache, hypertension, low appetite, constipation, and diarrhea. It also has a few severe side effects, such as seizures, decreased bone density, heart problems, cognitive impairment, and increased risk of infections.
